How to make Quick Sand - Play Dough & Popsicles

Quick Sand #1:

Three Minutes.
Three Ingredients.
Hours of Play.

3 Cups Of Play Sand
3 Cups of Corn Starch

Mix Corn Starch & Play Sand together. Slowly add water until you create the desired consistency. For me it was about 4 cups. Consistency should be thicker and grainier than slime but thinner than play dough.

Now comes the fun part. Play around. Toss toys in and watch them sink. Put your hands in and watch them get covered by the quick sand. Bring in spoons, cups & bowls, funnels, big toys and little toys. This will bring your kids hours of independent play.

Adding more sand will give it a thicker, more gritty texture.
Adding more cornstarch will create a more gooey texture.

Play around, see what you & your kids like best.

Quick Sand #2:

Play Dough is huge in our house. We are always trying to find new ways to make it, play with it, or encorporate new toys into it.

This is a new one for us. And it was so much fun. It plays like play dough when you keep minipulating it. If you let it sit, though, it will spread out like melting butter.

We took plastic stencils and pushed it over the quick sand play dough it squeezed into the various shapes of the stencils but if we let the sit, the dough would ooze back out.

1 Cup Corn Starch
1 Cup Play Sand
1 TBS Water

Mix all ingredients together. It will seem as though you need to add water but keep mixing. Use a spoon, your fingers, your child’s fingers, whatever you’d like. Just keep mixing. You’ll know when it’s done when it looks like the picture above.

I am not a science-y person. At all. I know that O2 is Oxygen and that baking soda & vinegar fizz up in an entertaining way. Beyond that though, I can’t promise anything. So I can’t explain why these two quick sands work the way they do. But goodness it is fun! You can add food coloring or paint to the mix to excentuate the fun.
