How-To for Kids: Fun Turkey Craft From Recycled Materials 12

As a child, Thanksgiving was never one my list of favorite holidays. As an adult, though, it has crept it’s way onto the list thanks to pumpkin pie and stuffing. I’m not a huge fan of turkey, though. It’s good on a sandwich or in a stew but on Thanksgiving, there are way to many other things I’d rather eat. I still enjoy decorating with turkeys though! Especially when my daughter has helped me make it, like this turkey craft.

This adorable Turkey is made from a recycled baby food jar. It is a fun craft for kids to help make for a Thanksgiving Decoration.

Finding recycled materials around the house and making a masterpiece out of them is one of my favorite things to do. Now my daughter is learning this too. Last time there was an empty cardboard box in our house she asked if we were going to make a craft with it. I love that she is learning my resourcefulness that I pride myself on so much.

This particular day we took an empty baby food jar and empty cereal box and made this glorious turkey. I like projects that not only we can do together but that are multi-step. It increases her patience. Right? Let’s hope so.

We started this project by painting the inside of a baby food jar brown. Let it dry, because it will probably need a second coat. We use our favorite washable kids paint made by Crayola. I love this paint. It is the only paint that we have used that is ACTUALLY WASHABLE. I have been able to wash it off of any material or surface with water. I love it!

Paint Everything

Then we took an empty cereal box, but it open and using the template provided below traced the feathers on. I cut these out and we painted them orange & red.Let these dry while doing second coat on baby food jar. And add an orange beak.

When everything is dry, using hot glue glue feathers on the back, googly eyes, and the bow.

Super easy right? And how cute did it turn out. A perfectly fun decoration just right for Thanksgiving.
