How To Make A Spring Inspired Colorful Flower Pot Craft 3

Spring is not my favorite season, my favorite is Fall. That being said, with Mr. Winter almost out the door, I can almost taste Spring in the air and I am craving it! We just had snow on the ground yesterday, but I want flowers to start blooming, trees to growing leaves, and birds nests to start appearing again. I’m ready Mother Nature! If I say it again, do you think it’ll come faster? Probably not. But, this Spring Inspired Colorful Flower Pot Craft gives me hope!

Step One:
We started by painting the empty, clean K-Cups. We chose purple, it’s a fun spring like color. We painted the outside and about half way down on the inside. Set aside to let dry.

Step Two:
Separate coffee filters into single pieces. Using makers, draw designs with multiple colors. Anything will do. The more color the better.

Step Three: The Fun Part
Spray the colored coffee filter with water. At first I hesitated and had my daughter only spray a few times. I realized, though, the more water the more change that happens. Don’t drown the coffee filter, but it was wet. Which is where the hair dryer came into play. I knew it would take a while to dry, so we dried them with the hair dryer in 30 seconds versus waiting 30+ for them to dry naturally.

Step Four:
Take popsicle stick and green pipe cleaner. Only the middle needs to be covered with the pipe cleaner. The bottom will be in the K-Cup and the top is covered by the coffee filter flower.

Step Five:
Fill K-Cup with crinkled paper, so that it is over flowing. This gives the essence of grass.

Step Six:
Push popsicle stick down into ‘grass’. Mine stayed without gluing, but add glue if it is not staying in place.

Step Seven:
Grab the coffee filter from the middle and pull. It ends up looking like picture below. From this point I took hot glue on the ‘center’ (looks almost like a stem) and glued it to the popsicle stick with the ‘flower’ pointing upwards. Once glue had dried I pulled the ‘flower’ down and messed with it a little until it was positioned in the way that we liked.

When they were all done, we found a couple perfect spots around the house to add our spring touches too. My daughter was so excited she has to show everyone! That’s when I know we did a great job, when she doesn’t forget about it!

It might be nasty and cold outside, with no sign of spring whatsoever, (I think that ground hog lied!!) but it is warm and sunny inside. Our Colorful Spring Inspired Flower Pots are the perfect reminder that spring will be here soon!

Spring Inspired Flower Pot Craft for Kids - Made using recycled materials and a super fun technique.

I only use Crayola Washable Kids Paint. I’m not getting paid to say this, I just really like Crayola Washable Kids Paint!
Let me tell you why…

  • The paint is the perfect consistency. It’s not too thick but it’s not so thin that it doesn’t’ cover anything.
  • Because it covers so well, it doesn’t take a whole pot for one project. One box of paint can last us at least 10-15 projects.
  • The colors are bold and beautiful.
  • IT IS WASHABLE!! Like legit washable! Read more about my love for Crayola Washable Kids Paint here.
