Patriotic holidays are major in our home. We decorate for other holidays too but the patriotic holidays have such a strong significance in our family, that they are my favorite holidays to decorate for. Many people in our family, including my husband, were in the military. Many of our friends are Veterans. These holidays, from Memorial Day, The Fourth of July, or Labor Day, mean much more than hot dogs & hamburgers or apple pie. (Although those things are fun too!)
I love putting up decorations, but putting the down is not as exciting. Am I right? That part kind of sucks. That might be the second reason why I love patriotic holidays. They are three holidays in a row and I can leave the decorations up May through September!
All Summer Long.
Summer = Patriotic Decorations!
This decoration was incredibly fun to make. More so for my 4 year old daughter, I think, because she did 90% of the process.
We poured about 2 TBS of one color paint into the plastic container, then add a splash or two of water. Not a lot, just enough to make it easy to coat all of the pasta. Add about 2 cups of dry pasta into the plastic container, put the lid on tight and shake. This is what my daughter loved the most. Shake for at least a minute. Check to make sure that all the pasta is coated with the particular color. If all pasta is coated, dump the whole thing onto one part of the cookie sheet or silicone mat.
Rinse out the plastic container. Repeat with the other two colors. Let pasta dry. I didn’t time the drying process but it didn’t take more than a couple hours.
When the paint is completely dry, thread the pasta onto yarn. Tie off on one end. Hang up.
This is the first time we have done this project for decoration purposes, so I am not sure how it will store. I am assuming that it will be great, as long as it is carefully wrapped, and it should last for many summers to come.
