A couple weeks ago I bought a package of styrofoam cups, like these, from the dollar store. I had plans to do a craft with my daughter with them. She must have been excited to have these ‘new & cool’ cups. She used some for a pop up lemonade stand in our living room, then she used some for a science experiment, and probably for 15-20 cups of chocolate milk. When I finally decided what craft I wanted to do with her, there were 2 cups left. Two. I just had to shake my head and smile. At least there was enough for each of us to make a Star Spangled Buddy.
Supplies Needed for Star Spangled Buddy: A Fourth Of July Craft
How To Make:
For Arms & Legs – Cut 4 strips of blue paper, fold back and forth.
Hands & Feet – I cut long half circles. Glue to the ends of each arm & leg strip.
Face – Shape of a star, glued on googly eyes, drawn on nose and mouth.
Glue on face, arms, and legs.
Add stickers for embellishment.
This craft, although so simple, has many aspects of skill practice. My daughter had practice with scissors, gluing, body part recognition and representation, and developing creativity. She doesn’t know all this, she thinks she is making a patriotic craft, but I am secretly smiling extra inside.
This would be an excellent craft for group of kids, like a day care group or at a Fourth of July BBQ. There are only a few steps that for a 4 year old may be easy to do with limited adult direction.
