There aren’t too many things that cast through three generations. There are few things that played a part in my mom’s childhood as well as mine and my daughters. The Wizard of Oz is one of those things, though. All three of us watched it starting at a young age, and it is settled sweetly in our memories. I was terrified of the wicked witch of the east, but that same part makes my daughter giggle. It’s funny how that happens, isn’t it? Needless to say, making a Wicked Witch of the East Popsicle Stick Craft was a must!
When my daughter and I were discussing the different elements of this craft, we needed to decide if she would have the ruby slippers on or not. Ultimately we decided that she should have them on. My daughter said she looked prettier with them on. So we added the shoes.
Supplies Needed For Wicked Witch of the East Popsicle Stick Craft
How We Made It:
Popsicle Stick House –
We painted the popsicle sticks brown.
We used brown painters tape to secure them together.
We cut leaves out of green construction paper to make it look like greenery at the bottom of the house.
Witches Legs –
We cut strips from the white construction paper and made a fold every 3/4 inch (ish) to make them zig zag.
We colored every other section of the zig zag legs with the black crayon. This makes it look like the witches black and white striped socks.
We taped one end of each leg to the back of the house.
Next we cut out the shoes from red construction paper and glued it on to the end of the legs.
Yellow Brick Road – (Optional)
We set the house down on the yellow sheet of construction paper to look like the yellow brick road.
As soon as the glue dried, my daughter got out her barbies and played Wizard of Oz with the Wicked Witch of the East and her barbies. I loved hearing her reciting lines from the movie almost word for word. Her memory is incredible.
