Bird Letter Matching Printable Pack

There were so many different stages my daughter has gone through that I was so excited for. When she rolled over, started walking, and when she said her first word. It’s bittersweet, you know? I got sad, wondering how time goes by so fast, but loving that I have the opportunity to watch her grow and develop! She’s almost 5. We’ve been working on letters for a couple years now. She had trouble with lowercase at first, but all of the sudden she knows that and she knows many of the sounds. As I sat with her last night¬†doing this Bird Letter Matching activity, I got a little teary eyed. She’s on the road to reading. My little girl is going to be reading soon.

Bird Letter Matching. A Letter matching activity for preschool or kindergarten that includes color, cut and paste. Excellent for scissor practice and coloring inside the lines and of course ABCs.

This Bird Letter Matching activity is meant to help connect uppercase and lowercase letters together. Although she does know them, she is not 100% proficient in it, so I think it’s helpful to keep practicing. If your child is just beginning lowercase letters, this is perfect for that as well.

The activity doesn’t seem like ‘work’ or ‘learning’ because the kids get to use art supplies to complete it. I don’t know about you, but my daughter loves craft supplies!

This activity can be completed by first coloring the birds. There is no right way to do this. I like to incorporate coloring in many of our activities to give her practice at coloring inside the lines.

The next step is to cut out the lowercase letters. Once this is done, you can sort them according to the sheet they will end up on, or have one big pool of letters. The big pool of letters could easily overwhelm any child. If that is happening, try to split them up.

Next is to find the uppercase matches and glue the lowercase letter underneath the correct bird.

Alternate Ideas

You could make it more of a game by turning the letters upside down, take turns finding & matching, or even put all the letters inside a bowl and pick them out one by one.

We like doing activities like this together. It gives us a reason to sit down and do a quieter, yet purposeful, activity together.
